Following a highly successful launch meeting, it was agreed that the next Cockermouth Georgian Fair will take place over the weekend of the May Day Bank Holiday in 2008, focussing on the Fair itself, to be held on Saturday, May 3rd 2008. There is no event being held in 2007 as it had been agreed to run every second year.
A number of willing volunteers have come forward to take on the many jobs that are necessary to put on a big town event, and Chris George, co-ordinator in 2006, has agreed to remain as co-ordinator for the 2008 event, given the larger number of people prepared to make things happen.
He said: "The success of the 2005 & 2006 events will be used to make sure that things are even better in 2008. We really want to involve the whole town - residents, retailers, businesses, hoteliers and guest houses, young people and all the voluntary groups. We would ask them to put the date of May 3rd 2008 in their diaries NOW, and start thinking about how they can join in to help us celebrate our wonderful Georgian heritage."
The 2008 Georgian Fair is being organised through the Cockermouth Partnership.
