Attractive listed early Georgian cottage in a secluded central location on the historic Kirkgate. Sympathetically restored and comfortably furnished with antique oak and pine, and has a 4-star rating. Shops all within easy walking distance. Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms.

Kirkbrae Cottage is located on the historic Kirkgate, one of the original streets in the town. The small terraced Georgian townhouses were all built around 1730, and on the side where the cottage is located, front on to a pebbled forecourt lined by horse chestnut trees. Kirkgate is now a quiet backwater, since through traffic is diverted along other roads in the town.

The cottage, which appears to be very small from the front, actually comprises two cottages that were combined at some time in the past, and is surprisingly spacious.

It was sympathetically restored 10 years ago, and retains the original exposed beams, fireplaces and some exposed brickwork. It is carpeted throughout and has full central heating. It is comfortably and tastefully furnished with old pine and antique oak furniture.

The accommodation comprises a lounge on the ground floor, with colour TV and DVD player and a log-effect gas fire in the original inglenook fireplace; dining room with farmhouse dining table and a well-equipped kitchen; master bedroom with double bed, original Georgian panelling and en-suite bathroom; guest shower room with whb and wc; second double bedroom; additional bedroom with twin beds. All heating and lighting are included in the rent, and bedlinen and hand towels are provided. Bath towels can be made available at an additional small cost.

The shops are only a 5 minutes walk away, through All Saints churchyard or via the pedestrian bridge over the River Cocker. A real joy not having to struggle to find a parking space! The seventeenth century Swan Inn is just across the road and the award-winning Bitter End pub, which serves meals and has its own microbrewery is only a hundred yards away.

The cottage has a 4 star English Tourist Board rating – and very complimentary comments from guests in the Visitors’ book!

There is parking for one car on the cobbles outside the cottage, and additional parking either on the kerb, or about 200 yards away.

In the interests of guests, this is a no-smoking establishment, and we do not allow pets.

The cottage combines the comfort and charm of a period cottage, with the convenience of easy access to the Northern lakes, and of not having to use the car for shopping, when eating out or visiting the numerous pubs in the town.
