Cockermouth and District Chamber of Trade
The purpose of the Chamber of Trade is to represent the businesses of Cockermouth and District in whatever forum their voice needs to be heard. Along with this, it seeks to promote Cockermouth and District in a way that leads to the increased profitability of the Chambers members. Membership is open to all businesses located within the CA13 postal code.
Particularly at the moment, the Chamber needs a strong voice in the regeneration debate and a credible percentage of local businesses as members. Please complete the form below and return it to us at the address shown. We need your support and the more of us that are grouped together, the more we will be listened to. This years membership fee of £10 is voluntary, but, if you can, please contribute. It will help with raising funds from other bodies if we can show some internal income.
Recent Chamber of Trade activity has included:
Obtaining the use of the former Capita works off Sullart Street as a temporary
car park.
Organising an 8x15 sign for Sainsburys showing the location of all Cockermouths
businesses still trading.
Bringing forward the appointment of a Town Centre Manager by lobbying hard.
Consistently pushing the Cockermouth is open message in the local and national
media. In addition, we have organised the printing and distribution of the Support
Cockermouth stickers and our members have raised money for the Flood Relief
Fund with the Christmas card initiative.
Arranging briefings from the insurers and loss adjustors so that businesses
know what to expect from the claims process, and we have attended numerous committees
to push the business point of view.
Secured funding towards the implementation of the Cockermouth marketing plan.
This is just a start. We plan a programme of advertising and marketing over the short and medium term, and we intend to make a strong case against the imposition of charges for on-street parking and exorbitant car park fees. In the longer term, we hope to help organise a number of events to regenerate our tourist income and promote a positive image of Cockermouth. To keep members in touch with each other, to have some much-needed fun and to raise money for charity, we are planning a social programme to keep our spirits high.
